A 59-year-old woman has reportedly delivered triplets at a Paris clinic. To evade the age limit of 42 for egg donation and in-vitro fertilization, the woman went to a private clinic in Vietnam.

The woman gave birth to the triplets by Caesarean, doctors at the Paris hospital told reporters from Agence France-Presse. The triplets, one girl and two boys, appeared to be in good health. They were delivered Saturday night.

"Everything went smoothly," said a spokesman at the Cochin hospital, where the triplets are being treated, AFP reported.

The two boys weighted 2.3 kg and 2.1 kg, while the girl weighed 2.4 kg. The woman, who is believed to be Vietnamese and is married to a man in his 40s, is also in good health after the delivery.

However, the case has drawn heavy criticism in France, a country where fertility treatment is illegal for women who are no longer at an age when they can have children naturally.

During the in-vitro fertilization procedure, an egg is mixed with sperm in a laboratory dish. After the two are combined, the resulting embryo is transferred to a woman who has previously undergone fertility treatment. The eggs and sperm are donated, usually by younger individuals.
