A temporary schedule has been established between rapper 50
Cent and former girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins, in regards to visitations with
their 11-old-son Marquise.
50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, and former girlfriend
Shaniqua Tompkins, have long fallen out of love. Publicly. Their son is only one
piece of the puzzle in the matters they have yet to resolve between themselves.
Monday, an appearance at a Suffolk Family Court in Central
Islip was just another reason for one of them to be content and the other to
feel frustrated, as Judge David Freundlich ruled that Jackson would see Marquise every other
weekend.
Tompkins would have probably preferred for Jackson to spend no time at all with the boy,
as she has accused her former boyfriend of deliberately setting on fire the
home she and Marquise had been living in until recently.
Jackson
has denied the accusation. The May 30 blaze that destroyed the mansion where
Tompkins and Marquise once lived affected six people, including the two of
them, who were in the house at the time of the fire. They were all treated for
smoke inhalation.
Judge Freundlich also issued an order of protection against
the rapper, forbidding him from approaching his ex.
The two parties have agreed upon a neutral terrain - the
103rd Precinct in Queens, where Marquise is to
be transferred from one parent to the other.
At the end of the meeting, Jackson told reporters he was “happy” he now
had the “chance to see him,” as quoted by Newsday.
Tompkins’s lawyer Paul Katsandonis told the judge he had
been too generous, awarding Jackson
with more time than he can make good use of. Katsandonis said he “frankly” does
not understand how “given his schedule” Jackson
could see his son on alternate weekends. “We want to make sure that he’s going
to be in a safe, nurturing environment,” he said of Marquise.
Jackson and Tompkins are to meet in court again on October
22.
