Famous rapper 50 Cent has been fighting in court with his ex-girlfriend, Shaniqua Tompkins, over the custody of their 11-year-old son, Marquise. The trial has been a long and strenuous one, but it seems that both Shaniqua Tompkins and Curtis Jackson (50 Cent’s real name) have reached an agreement.
The settlement was reached outside of court, which is good news as it avoids yet another high-profile trial. The stress of fighting to the right to see your child is enough for a person, without adding the extra stress-factor represented by the paparazzi army that would have undoubtedly covered the event.
According to the latest information, Curtis Jackson will be able to see his son one weekend a month, and Marquise will also be with his father one month during summer and also spend half of his winter and spring breaks with Curtis Jackson. The final hearing was obviously tense, given that the former couple, Curtis and Shaniqua, didn’t even make eye contact. Tompkins stated that she was happy with the results and was pleased that Marquise would spend time with his father, despite her feeling for Jackson.
The judge who conducted the hearing, Suffolk’s David Freundlich, thanked the couple for cooperating in settling the case favorably for both sides but most of all, keeping the child’s best interest in mind at all times. The judge thinks the settlement is highly beneficial for Marquise. Shaniqua initiated the custody battle, after accusing Curtis Jackson of purposely setting fire to the home she and Marquise were living in at the time. That particular trial has not been resolved yet.
