A 4-year-old boy got stuck into a washing machine and the crew sent at the scene by the local firefighters department had to use metal cutter to get the child out of the appliance.
The boy was identified as Donovan Hasseman from DOVER, Ohio. Fortunately, he didn’t suffer injuries. He apparently got in the machine while it was empty and got wedged up against the agitator with a knee folded against his chest. The whole scene occurred Sunday night, Dover Fire Capt. Mike Mossor said.
"My oldest son came up to me and said 'Mom, Donovan's head is stuck in the washer,'" Jennifer Hasseman told Fox Television. "His one leg was bent and his back was compressed against the agitator."
The boy’s mother tried to help her son get out of the appliance, but her efforts like using a crow bar to get him out proved to be futile. Then she called 911 and firefighters were sent to rescue the boy. An owner of an appliance store was also called to find out how to dismember the washing machine.
After several attempts to get the boy out, including taking the washer apart, the fire crew decided to use its hydraulic "jaws-of-life" tool. This piece of equipment is used generally to remove crash victims from wrecked vehicles due to its capability to cut through the machine's walls and plastic tub.
"It was such a confined space we had to make sure the tools we were using didn't end up causing him injury and making it worse," Cpt. Brooks Ross told MyFOXCleveland.com
The boy was taken to the local hospital and after a brief examination he was sent home in safe conditions, the doctors said.
