A child died at a Hoppin' Houses indoor playground in Castle Rock.
The 3-year-old boy was from Longview and, according to the police staff investigating the case, his death was caused by severe injuries to the head which were inflicted by two adults who fell on him at the playground.
The boy’s name was released. He is, or better said, was Jacob Pierce and he died Saturday at St. John Medical Center in Longview.
Jeff Gann, the police officer who is investigating the tragic death, said that Jacob was at a birthday party that was held at the play area which had inflatable slides and obstacle courses. The 3-year-old had either fallen off one of the inflatables or was standing beside one of them when two adults fell on him.
Another policeman in charge with the investigation, Sgt. Scott Neves, said that an employee has witnessed the scene and was deeply traumatized. The two adult who fell on Jacob hit him with an elbow, shoulder or knee. The blow cracked open Jacob’s head.
The paramedic crew arrived at the scene promptly found the boy bleeding from the nose and mouth. He died later at a local hospital.
The owner of the business refused to comment.
Hoppin' Houses’ Web site informs that they have 6,000 square feet of space with inflatables for kids and adults. The facility is used for parties and also has "open jump" times.
