Three more U.S. soldier died in Iraq. They were all caught late Tuesday in a bomb attack north of Baghdad, The Associated Press reported.
The bomb attack, which also killed the interpreter who was accompanying the soldiers, was carried out shortly after Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki gave Shiite fighters in the southern oil-rich province of Maysan a seven-day deadline to surrender.
The roadside bomb occurred at about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday in Nineveh, a province in which al-Qaida in Iraq and other Sunni extremist groups are still very active.
The US military released a statement regarding the death of the three soldiers, but wouldn’t specify the exact location and did not give further details about the attack.
Meanwhile the Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman said about the attack which occurred on Wednesday when attackers blew off an office in Sadr City, that the Iraqi officials - and not the Americans - were the main target.
The attack killed 10 people, including four Americans who were working to restore local government in Sadr City. Two of the four American who were killed were soldiers working for the State Department and for the Defence Department. During the same day, U.S. soldier killed three gunmen who fired on an American convoy in the country’s capital.
These attacks pushed the death toll of U.S. service members to the staggering number of 4,109 since the Iraq war began in 2003.
