A sport utility vehicle drove off a road, rolled down a steep hill and violently stopped into a home's carport in the Hollywood Hills. The car was full. Two of the passengers died and the three other escaped with their lives but suffered severe injuries, authorities said.
The accident took place at about 7:54 a.m. when the vehicle fell from Crescent Drive and crashed into the carport of a house in the 8700 block of Duncamp Place, near Lookout Mountain Avenue, said Brian Humphrey, spokesman of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
One of the passengers, a 70 years old man, remained trapped inside the crashed car and was declared dead at the scene. The second victim of the crash was a 40-year-olf woman. She was rushed to the nearest hospital which happened to be Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, but didn’t make it. The doctors pronounced her dead shortly after she was brought in.
A 40-year-old woman was at the wheel. She suffered critical injuries as the other two passengers did, Humphrey said.
Some details of the crash still elude the investigators. It is still unknown why the SUV drove off the road, but there are suspicions that the driver may have been backing up. It is also unknown whether all the passengers were wearing seat belts.
