The Grand Prize from
the latest Mega Millions lotto drawing was won by a single player.
Lottery officials said
that the winning ticket was sold in Portal, Georgia, a small community in the northwest of Savannah, Atlanta Journal
Constitution informs.
The lucky owner of the
ticket got all five numbers from the drawing, 7,12,13,19,22
plus the Mega Ball, 10.
Except the Grand Prize winner, 36 other
players got all the numbers right, but missed the Mega Ball, so they collected
$250,000 each. Another 24,000 got the Mega Ball correctly, but only four of the
five numbers, therefore won $10,000 each.
Until now, fourteen separate drawings have had no winner, raising
the jackpot up to $220. The prize is the sixth largest in Mega Millions
history, the largest payout being of $390 million in March 2007.
Some people play in office pools, hoping to
increase their chances to win. But lottery experts warn people to be very
careful, as many people tend to cheat and refuse to share the money with the
other participants in the office pool.
For example, John Piccolo of Queens won
$175,000 million from Mega Millions in 2004, Daily News informs, and then
claimed the ticket was one he had bought for himself, not the pool. His
co-workers at Mount Sinai Medical Center sued him and eventually he had to
split the winnings with them.
Whether playing in an office pool or for
oneself, the chances to win the grand prize are still 1 in 175 million.
