Twenty decapitated bodies were found on Monday by the Iraqi police in northern Baghdad. Investigators believe that one of the headless corpses has belonged to a tribal leader.
The exact place of the horrific discovery was the village of Gsrine, close to Diyala province's capital, Baquba, local police sources reported. According to specialists report the decapitation of the twenty men was recent. The beheaded bodies were still bleeding.
The tribal leaders are currently targeted more than ever due to their support to the government against the killings of the Al-Qaida.
This shocking event, not because of the number of killings, but because of the means used, shows that the country’s brutal sectarian conflict is still very intense and far from over, despite the military operations between the United States and Iraq.
The Baquba capital, located 65 kilometers northeast of Baghdad, has been the scene of similar insurgencies and sectarian violence since the American invasion started in 2003.
Just a few hours earlier on Monday, the city witnessed another horrific scene. A suicide bomber killed about 28 police recruits and officers in a city square and wounded 22 others.
The unfortunate police recruits were gathering outside the local police headquarters to sign up and join the police force. The suicide bomber was riding a bicycle and the detonated the bomb while passing through Ishbiliyah Square, where the police HQ were located.
A doctor at the local hospital said that most of the victims
were hit by iron balls packed with explosives and that the hospital
didn’t have the necessary equipment to save the wounded.
The attack took the death toll up to 330 this month.
