Directed by Roland Emmerich, who earned his fame by directing disaster shows such as "Independence Day," "2012" presents an academic researcher embodied by Woody Harrelson who leads a group of people in a fight to survive the apocalyptic events that begin to happen in 2012 just as predicted by the prophecies of an ancient Mayan calendar. The $200million film gathers the performances of great actors, such as John Cusack, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover and Thandie Newton.

 

Also set for a debut during that same period as “2012” movies like the Warner Bros remake of Sherlock Holmes, directed by Guy Ritchie as well as Fox’s comedy “The Tooth Fairy.” The cast for both movies include great Hollywood names among which Robert Downey Jr. or Jude Law.

 

Sony executives stated that the film "2012" could have been completed by its summer date, though by postponing its opening there will be more time left to work more on the effects-laden production. Apparently this is going to be a very busy summer for the studio since it is also releasing “Angels & Demons” and “The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.” “Terminator Salvation” is also set to be released outside the U.S. during the same period.
