Every year a ceremony is held in order to induct new people in the infamous Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony is historically held at the famous Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City. The first induction took place in 1986, on January 23rd. In the initial hatch of inductees were Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and Elvis Presley.
According to the current criteria for induction, groups and individuals are only considered for induction if 25 years have passed since they released their first record. Those who are nominated must have proven, along their careers, that they had brought significant contributions and have influenced rock and roll.
The Hall of Fame has four categories nowadays – Performers, Non-Performers, Early Influences and, starting with 2000, Sidemen.
In 2009, the list is of inducted people and band is quite impressive, as it includes very well-deserving artists. Among the artists are Jeff Beck, heavy metal group Metallica, and vocalists Little Anthony & the Imperials. Moreover, the 2009 list of inductees includes the following: Bobby Womack, hip hop artist Run-D.M.C., country music star Wanda Jackson, as well as musicians Spooner Oldham, D.J. Fontana, and Bill Black.
