This year’s elections have been a breakthrough in politics – the 44th president-elect of the United States is Barack Obama, the first African-American to be elected as president in the history of the United States. His policies are sure to change the States for the better – at least that is what the electors thought, given that Obama won the popular vote.
But the elections didn’t benefit only the Americans as a people, they also helped individual businesses and companies – a very important effect given the current state of the American economy.
Networks ABC and NBC have had a dry spell in rating at the beginning of this fall, but it was covering the elections that brought them out of the audience crisis. However, the networks also had programs that helped them rise to the ratings’ top again.
ABC broadcast the popular program “Dancing With the Stars.” It was shown on Mondays, and it drew in 17.1 million viewers. The final show, which was the one with the contest’s results, had an audience of 15.8 million.
NBC sky-rocketed to the top with “Saturday Night Live” which focused for a while on electoral spoofs – Tina Fey reached full stardom after successfully parodying the Republican Vice-Presidential Candidate, the Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin. Its Monday show, “Saturday Night Live Presidential Bash 2008” got them 14.4 million viewers.
CBS’s “CSI” got them a whopping 18.2 million viewers, making CBS the winner of the rating competition. If we were to rank them, CBS was the leader of the week ratings-wise, closely followed by ABC, NBC and Fox. CNN had 15.2 million viewers that tuned in at 8 p.m. o the 4th of November, when the results of the election were announced and Barack Obama was officially declared president-elect.
