The series of shootings on the Californian highways continues. A driver was fatally shot in the head before crashing and another one shot and wounded in a separate accident on a Californian freeway, police confirmed.
Rescue crews were sent at the scene of a crash on 101 Freeway in the San Fernando Valley on Sunday morning. To their surprise, the driver was dead, but not from injuries caused by the crash. He had been shot in the head.
Police had to close traffic over that stretch of the road – near Van Nuys - for a couple of hours so the investigation could be carried out.
The cause of the lethal shooting still eludes investigators. The crash took place near a freeway onramp thus the driver could have been shot before entering the highway.
When asked about the crash and what caused the shooting, all that Los Angeles police Officer Norma Eisenman could say was that there are “absolutely no witnesses” at this time and investigators have no relevant information.
The other shooting occurred on Saturday night at about 30 miles away near Long Beach. This time the driver was shot but the bullet didn’t kill him. He was able to drive off the highway and call the police, said Officer Jackie Bezart.
He told police officers that another driver opened fire at him on 710 Freeway. The apparent reason for the shooting was road rage, as the victim told police. He was taken to the hospital to be treated. His wounds are not life threatening, authorities said.
A possible link between these shootings and three other shootings which took place during the past couple of weeks on Southern Californian freeways was ruled out by investigators.
