An 11-year-old boy lost his arm while playing in the water when an alligator pulled him under and bit it off, Louisiana sheriff's deputies said according to The Associated Press.
Police identified the little boy as Devin Funck of Louisiana. He was playing in a neighborhood pond in a subdivision about 20 miles northeast of New Orleans when an alligator measuring between 10 and 12 feet - as described by the sheriff’s deputies - pulled him under water.
The teen was accompanied by two girls and they were all playing in the water of a swimming pond in Slidell, Louisiana.
Amazingly, the boy managed to free himself from the deadly jaws of the predator by poking it in the eyes, according to the sayings of his relatives who were interviewed by The Times-Picayune. The boy was taken by helicopter to a local hospital. It is still unknown whether doctors managed to bring him to a stable condition.
The grade six student’s entire arm was recovered in one piece after wildlife officials shot the large reptile and cut it open. The arm was also taken to the hospital, but it is not sure whether it can be successfully reattached. After the struggle with the alligator, authorities found the boy floating on the water, still conscious but in obvious shock. The boy’s words to his mother, before going into surgery, were:
"I'm sorry, I know alligators are dangerous," the Times-Picayune newspaper reported. Then he asked, "How am I going to play my game now?" referring to hi PlayStation3 which he loves.
A similar incident occurred last month in Florida when an alligator attacked a teen in a canal
