Snow storms have killed at least 11 people in the US and a few hundred car accidents have been registered across the US in the last two days.
The culprits are the dense fog (causing low visibility) and the ice formed after some of the worst snow storms to hit the US in the last decade. The cold weather has engulfed most of the nation, including regions in the South.
Thousands are currently left without electricity for Christmas, due to the heavy winds that have leveled electricity poles and power lines. Hundreds of flights have been cancelled because of the low visibility and lots of cars are still trapped in huge traffic jams caused by the abundant snow.
Three hundred car accidents have been registered and 3 people have died in Minnesota. Other states where victims have been reported in weather-related car accidents are Wyoming, Wisconsin, Kansas and Texas. Sixteen people are in hospitals with different injuries, two of them being in critical condition.
Heavy snow fall has affected central states like Oklahoma, Kansas or Missouri and the North of the US, where many highways have been closed.
According to meteorologists, the storms are heading towards the Lakes, at the frontier with Canada. There, 41 people have died in the recent period because of extremely low temperatures.
