Wikimedia Foundation, the organization that runs Wikipedia, reported that it has achieved its goal of raising $6 million from donations and, moreover, it even exceeded it by $200,000.
While not so many people were rushing to the website to donate money when the campaign started, the appeal posted by Jimmy Wales, co-founder of the foundation, made 50,000 users go to Wikipedia.com and donate a total of $2 million in just eight days.
The Wikimedia Foundation reported there were more than 125,000 donors that contributed with $6.2 million during the fundraising campaign.

On Sunday, LG Electronics and Netflix officially announced that they would work together to release TV sets that are capable to stream video content from Netflix directly from the web without any external hardware.
This announcement is not surprising, as the two companies did the same thing last year, when they had introduced set-top boxes and Blu-Ray players, which were equipped to deliver content from the DVD rental company.

Although the transition to digital TV is only a month away, its government-funded subsidy program has hit a bit of a snag. A home with no Digital TV set, or without a digital converter box at the very least, won’t receive TV anymore. The government is giving free coupons for those who need to buy converter boxes, but the program is almost out of money.

With the help of over 125,000 donors, Wikipedia managed to reach its fundraising goal for fiscal year 2008. Starting with July 1, the money began gathering and reached the needed $6 million - $4 million were direct contributions, while $2 million were raised through gifts and support by the Wikimedia foundation.
Wikipedia’s founder, Mr. Jimmy Wales, posted a thank you note addressed to everyone of the people who accepted to get involved and help out.
