Researchers may be closer than ever to discover the secret
to longevity, as new research by the National Institute on Aging and Harvard Medical School
reveals that a compound in red wine, called resveratrol, appears to protect
against many of the health ravages linked to the process of growing old.
As part of their study, researchers led by Rafael de Cabo, unit

The summer is here, and as many of us head to the beach, we
are unaware that our vacation could turn bad because of an “innocent” sunscreen
lotion. But that’s the reality, the latest report released by the Environmental
Working Group (EWG) revealed.

The Congress went on the 4th of July vacation without being able to pass the bill that would have prevented a 10.6 percent cut in doctors’ wages and which would have cut the subsidies the government makes to private insurers. Thinking about getting pregnant through in vitro
fertilization (IVF)? Then the time couldn’t be better, as Stanford University
researchers have developed a way of predicting a woman’s chances of becoming
pregnant after IVF treatment.
In IVF treatment, a number of eggs harvested from the woman
are fertilized in the lab with the man's sperm. The fertilized eggs are allowed
to grow for about 5 days. Then, the ones that are deemed most viable are
selected for implanting into the woman's uterus.
IVF is both an expensive and emotional procedure with success
only in...

New diabetes drugs should be thoroughly studied for
potential heart risks before being brought to the market, U.S. Food and Drug
Administration advisers said on Wednesday.
With almost a unanimous vote (14-2), they decided that all
drug makers should conduct long-term cardiovascular trials, even if the drugs
show no signs of heart problems in initial trials.
The decision comes as cardiovascular risks are the number
one killer of diabetics and one year after the FDA was harshly criticized for
its handling of the type 2 diabetes drug Avandia (rosioglitazone), of...
