The summer movie season ended with yet another triumph for
film industry parody “Tropic Thunder,” which earned an estimated $11.5 million
Friday through Sunday and claimed the first spot at the North American box
office for the third week in a row, Hollywood studios reported yesterday.
The Paramount Pictures production, starring Ben Stiller,
Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black, collected a total of $83.8 million in three
weeks, after putting an end to “The Dark Knight’s” prolonged reign at the box

Jim Henson’s puppets live on and are as endearing and
educational as ever, as animated series “Sid the Science Kid,” featuring a ludic
purple-haired computer animated character who likes to learn, makes its debut
on PBS on Sept. 1.
A new CGI animated show is set to debut Monday, Sept. 1, on

Apparently Google’s Chrome browser which was released on
Tuesday is a good reminder for us to actually read Terms of Service documents
and EULAs. Not two hours after its release, bloggers checking out the new
browser reported an interesting find in Chrome’s license document. The original

The Arctic sea ice level is rapidly shrinking and heading
toward a new record, as at this point it reached its second-lowest level ever. Over
the next few weeks, scientists fear that 2007’s record low will be reached and
significantly surpassed.
The prognosis has been released by the National Snow and Ice
Data Center in Boulder, Colorado, in charge of monitoring these changes and at
this point there is not much that can be done.

A study by scientists at the Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston has concluded that childhood abuse is a factor which influences chances that a person develops asthma. The researchers found that children in Puerto Rico who endure physical or sexual abuse are twice as likely to suffer from asthma as in their youth than those who do not face maltreatment. The presence or absence of childhood abuse was shown to be more important for the development of asthma than the family's social status. Unfortunately, around 25 percent of Puerto Rican children are diagnosed with asthma during childhood....
