Nick, Joe and Kevin, a.k.a. the Jonas Brothers are presented as so much glossy, superficial packaging in "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience." We learn nothing about who they are or where they come from - they may not even have parents, for all we know, since the adult accompanying them is usually their bodyguard. And of course there are behind-the-scenes moments wedged between the perky performances, but these moments feel self-conscious, staged, and consist mainly of the brothers marveling at how many screaming fans are gathered outside their hotel/car/wherever.
Fans who know all the words to ''BB Good'' and ''Burnin' Up'' are the target ticket buyers for this chipper, careful brand extension of the boy band composed of 21-year-old Kevin (the fun one), 19-year-old Joe (the cute one), and 16-year-old Nick Jonas (the who has been singing for a living since he was a 6-year-old).
“I wanted to (work at The Gap),” Kevin Jonas told Access Hollywood.com‘s “Dish Of Salt” Laura Saltman at the Hollywood premiere of the Jonas Brothers’ “3D Concert Experience” movie on Tuesday. “Especially when those Gap jean jackets were madly in style and you didn’t want to take ‘em off. That was pretty awesome.”
Everyone knows that the Jonas Brothers have hysterical fans that will do just about anything to meet them, so we had to turn the tables and ask the guys: Is there anyone you are fanatical about? Nick very quickly answered, "Daniel Craig."
Last night's premiere of the picture at the El Capitan Theatre — across Hollywood Boulevard from the Oscars' home at the Kodak Theatre — brought out hundreds of screaming girls. Kevin looked the most classic, opting for a skinny tie, tuxedo jacket and black pants that had a slight sheen to them. Joe also chose a dark palate with a neon tie to add a little burst of color to his outfit, but not as funky as Nick and his baby blue tuxedo jacket.
Getting back to the movie itself, unfortunately, most of the 3-D effects are pretty arrousing: For example, Joe, the middle brother, takes off his sunglasses and hurls them at the camera, and Nick, the youngest, flicks a guitar pick and hits us squarely between the eyes. There's also a bizarre sequence in which they whip out giant power hoses and suggestively spray the crowd with some sort of indeterminate, fluffy white substance. Perhaps they're not so innocent after all.
In the summer of 2008, the Jonas Brothers starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock. They have released three albums: It's About Time (2006), Jonas Brothers (2007), and A Little Bit Longer (2008). In 2008, the group was nominated for the Best New Artist award at the 51st Grammy Awards, but lost to Adele.
The Jonas Brothers had made their acting debut in season 2 of the popular Disney Channel Original Series, Hannah Montana, where the guest starred on the episode "Me and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas". Soon after, they had collaborated with Miley Cyrus again to be in her 3D Concert Film, Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert, where they had been the opening act while on tour with Cyrus.
