Taylor Lautner, Still “Jacob” in New Moon

The Twilight series is one of the most successful fantasy book series, coming close behind such literary phenomena such as “The Lord of the Rings” or “Harry Potter”.

Once the books were adapted to the big screen and after the role of the charming vampire Edward Cullen was given to Robert Pattinson (Cedric Diggory in the fourth Harry Potter book adaptation, “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”), fans – especially fangirls - went wild and the movie sky-rocketed to the top of the box office. Pattinson himself was surprised by his own popularity, which did not diminish even after he clearly stated that he has very few things in common with the part of Cullen.

Another important character in the books and, consequently, in the movies, is Jacob Black. Although his character is of little importance in the first book, Twilight, he becomes a key part of the plot in the second book, New Moon. Jacob is a werewolf, and in the second book he and Bella develop a romantic relationship.

There has been talk of replacing the actor playing Jacob, Taylor Lautner. As the characters in Stephenie Meyer’s books go through considerable transformations, it’s not surprising that some actors may be replaced. The werewolf Jacob, for instance, becomes bigger in size, older, a lot bulkier and stronger.

However, Lautner is reportedly gaining weight and building up muscle mass for the following movie. Even the director of New Moon, Chris Weitz, said that Lautner will keep on playing Jacob.
