It seems like the biggest enemy of PlayStation 3 is no other then its older brother: PlayStation 2. The research group Nielsen has just released its annual Top 10 US Lists for 2008 and in the Video Game Console Usage section the PlayStation 2 is rated as the most played game console.
The top is based on the measured console minutes and, according to Nielsen, PS2 users accounted for 31.7 percent of the total time played from all nationwide gamers.
The second place went to Xbox 360 with 17.2 percent, while the famous Nintendo Wii ranked third with 13.4 percent. As for PlayStation 3, it gained only the fifth place with 7,3 percent, behind Xbox which has 9.7 percent.
In the PC Games section, Nielsen ranked World of Warcraft as the most played game, based on average minutes played per week. Nielsen noted that the gamers spent 671 minutes per week involved in the WoW fantasy universe.
The second game in the list is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare from Activision with 403 minutes per week, while Halo: Combat Evolved (Microsoft) ranked third 295 minutes per week.
The Sims franchise has ranked on the fourth and fifth places, with The Sims (213 minutes) and The Sims 2 (291 minutes). Surprisingly, Diablo II seems to be still popular, as it has achieved the seventh place with 313 minutes per week. The Top 10 was rounded by Team Fortress 2 with 371 minutes, Counter-Strike Sierra Studios with 282 minutes and Counter-Strike: Source with 426 minutes.
