Toshiba Reveals Its First 512 GB SSD Notebook

Toshiba is one of the world’s most successful laptop designers and manufacturers, providing customers with reliable machines that have always been with the finger on the technological pulse. Recently, Toshiba announced that it will showcase their latest notebook at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January.

The machine is special because it is equipped with a 512 GB SSD, which was designed using Toshiba’s latest 43-nanometer manufacturing process. The use of SSDs gives some advantages like less physical space used, which means that more DDRAM can be added, making the system’s performance even greater.

Another advantage is that SSDs are faster than hard drives, consume less power and, ultimately, have higher performances. The reason why SSD’s are faster than hard drives is because there is no seek time involved when dealing with data.

These advantages will surely be welcomed by these looking to buy a notebook, but a well known thing about solid state drives is that they are a lot more expensive that normal hard drives. With people wanting to spend less and less on computers, as the world is deep into financial crisis, Toshiba should really think hard about the price tag its new device will have.

The superiority of SSDs is obvious, but some argue that the advantages don’t make up for the higher price and hard drives are still reliable enough. SSDs are used in mini-laptops, machines needing to save up on power and weight, as they are designed for ultimate portability. Depending on what model, a SSd drive can way between half an ounce and two ounces.
