K-Fed And His Love For Britney
Kevin Federline is one of the most important people in Britney Spears' life as the father of her two absolutely adorable children, and his support has got to count for something.

Amid all the buzz surrounding Britney Spears' latest album release, her birthday and string of appearances on various events, Kevin Federline, who was granted full custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James following Brit's breakdown earlier this year, is finally telling his side of the story in an exclusive interview with People magazine.

Ever since he became a fulltime daddy, K-Fed pretty much kept out of the public eye and refrained from talking too much about the high-profile divorce from Britney in late 2006. The former dancer spoke candidly about his duties as a father, his children and of course, his relationship with Britney post-breakup. The interview comes just days after Britney said in her documentary "Britney: For the record," which aired this weekend on MTV, that it was K-Fed who left her first. The two split in November of 2006 after two years of marriage.

Speaking candidly about his ruined marriage, Federline told People he was in fact willing to work on their troubled relationship, "I was trying to work stuff out with her, and she didn't even talk to me or anything and went behind my back and filed for divorce. I was completely blindsided." There is even a video of Federline looking extremely shocked while receiving a text message the day before Britney filed the divorce papers.

But despite the stab in the back, Federline claims he is definitely rooting for the mother of his children, and is offering his full support in her recovery and career comeback.

"That's the mother of my children. Just because I'm not in love with her doesn't mean that I don't love her," Federline said. "I'm definitely rooting for her. There's nothing more that I want than for her to be in the best health and doing what she loves to do." Even as the two were going through their bitter custody battle, the rapper expressed his desire to have the pop singer around the children as much as possible.

Furthermore, he dismissed accusations he was after Britney's money, saying his first reaction to Britney's sudden desire for divorce was whether he would be able to see his children.

"My first question to [my lawyer] was, 'Am I ever going to be able to see my children? I told him that I would spend every last dime that I had to make sure that my children are okay. That’s all that mattered. I didn’t know how much power Britney had. That really scared me," K-Fed recalled.

However, Britney's "power" proved to be useless after she was rushed to the hospital following a very public meltdown during which she locked herself in the bathroom with 2-year-old Jayden and refused to hand him over to Federline's bodyguard who was waiting to get him back after a visit. The aspiring rapper revealed that his memory of that night is kind of fuzzy, "You want to talk about one of my lowest points of depression, that was probably one of them. I was very, very worried for her ’cause I care about her."

Certainly, Federline has matured a lot and deserves the credit for stepping up when his children needed him, although he seems to have completely skipped over the fact that he left his girlfriend Shar Jackson, who was pregnant at the time with his second child, for Britney.

Now things finally seem to be looking up for Britney, who has been under her father's conservatorship ever since she was hospitalized in a psychiatric ward, as she's fighting to get her musical career back, and Federline seems pretty happy about it.

"It works out that [the kids] get to see her. There’s structure over there, there’s structure at my house. We’re trying to keep the same type of schedule. It doesn’t have to be completely perfect, but the foundation is there," he added.
