Britney Channels Her Inner Madonna

Britney Spears is intent on reviving her career and proving she is still a bona fide entertainer as she prepares for the release of new studio album “Circus” next week with a couple of live shows.

Pop princess Britney Spears attended the 2008 Bambi Awards in Offenburg, Germany Thursday night and delighted fans with a generous dose of her erstwhile on-stage charisma, complete with sexy outfit and seductive dance routine.

Spears, who turns 27 on December 2, the same day “Circus” is released, donned silky black hot pants and a see-through top, fishnet tights and knee-high boots as well as a black top hat last night as she strutted on stage and performed “Womanizer,” the first single off her new album.

Not only did Spears have everyone murmur ‘excellent comeback’ but she also received the Best International Pop Star Award, handed to her by the great Karl Lagerfeld, who congratulated her on coming back not only as a Phoenix bird but as a Paradise bird.

This was the singer’s first public performance since the disastrous appearance a year ago at the MTV Music Video Awards.

Earlier this month, she joined Madonna on stage at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, for one of the many concerts scheduled for the Queen of Pop’s Sticky & Sweet tour. Wearing a demure tuxedo-style shirt, pants and black heels, Spears introduced herself with a take from her last album, “It’s Britney Bitch” and sang along with Madonna on the last verse of the track “Human Nature.”

Madonna, wearing an appealing costume made up of fishnet tights, knee-high boots, black leotard and white top hat (does that sound familiar?), courteously kissed Britney’s hand when they had finished their song.

Britney Spears is next scheduled to perform on British talent show “X Factor” on Saturday. Host Simon Cowell has already expressed his excitement at welcoming the pop princess on the show.

Spears’ candid new MTV documentary, “Britney: For the Record,” airs Sunday, November 30.
