Oh, how we love to watch Madonna’s every step and speculate about the possible romance she is having with Yankees star Alex Rodriguez! Luckily for us, she does plenty to fuel the speculation, such as recently performing “You Must Love Me” during a concert while gazing at her rumored lover.
Madonna and Alex Rodriguez, nicknamed A-Rod by fans, were the talk of the summer as rumors intensified that the two, each married at the time, were having an affair. Kabala purportedly united them and Madonna’s statement that she was in no way romantically involved with the slugger was pretty much tossed aside.
Subsequent events did little to slow down the rumor mill. Rodriguez and his wife of six years soon found themselves in Splitsville, as Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce in July, saying she could no longer “tolerate his continued marital misconduct.”
Tongues are wagging once more after Madonna’s concert on Wednesday at Dolphin Stadium in Miami – she is currently in the midst of the North American leg of her Sticky & Sweet tour – as she sang “You Must Love Me” and looked at Alex Rodriguez, comfortably seated in the front row and looking right back at her, per the New York Daily News.
Rodriguez was gentlemanly, handing the singer a bottle of water at one point. Well, have we ever known Madonna to censor herself or do things for the sake of convenience? Later on, before performing “I’m So Far Away,” she told the crowd she was certain they knew what a “long-distance love affair” felt like. Rodriguez, as well as the rest of the stadium, cheered the Queen of Pop throughout the night and clearly enjoyed the show.
Alex Rodriguez, 33, and Cynthia Scurtis married in November 2002 and welcomed their first child, daughter Natasha Alexander, in November 2004. Their second child, daughter Ella Alexander, was born in April of this year but the couple was unfortunately not united by the birth of their second baby.
Of course their drifting apart was at least partially blamed on A-Rod’s alleged affair with Madonna, though both denied having a romantic relationship. Furthermore, Madonna denied reports that her own eight-year marriage to British director Guy Ritchie was breaking down. Then again, this was hardly the first time the media expected them to separate yet both held strong and maintained they were fine.
Last month however, they issued a statement confirming the long-brewing rumor that all was not fine within the Ritchie household and announced they had agreed to divorce, while at the same time asking for privacy and respect during the difficult time.
