Goerlitz, Germany - According to a police report, several attackers have defaced a former synagogue in Germany, which was recently re-opened as a memorial to the Holocaust.
Yellow paint was daubed on a door of the building and an anti- Semitic slogan and a Nazi symbol were written near the entrance, the police said in Goerlitz on the Polish border.
The former synagogue was inaugurated as a cultural centre on November 9, the anniversary of Kristallnacht in 1938 when the Nazis killed more than 90 Jewish people and ransacked shops and synagogues throughout the country.
The Goerlitz area's Jewish community has criticized the secular management of the memorial and has asked to take over the building for use again as a synagogue.
