Blizzard Entertainment, the video game developer behind the world's largest massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) World of Warcraft (WoW), finally gave gamers their fix Wednesday evening, when it released the expansion pack for the famous videogame, called Wrath of the Lich King (WLK). The latter is the second expansion Blizzard has launched for their WoW franchise, after The Burning Crusade, which was made available on January 16, 2007.
Although the release had been previously scheduled for November 13 at 12 p.m, the developer decided to take gamers by surprise and put a much desired end to their waiting, by launching Wrath of the Lich King at 9 p.m. PST.
When Blizzard
Entertainment first announced the date they had chosen for making the
expansion available to gamers back in September, media reports revealed that it
would come in a standard edition priced at $39.99, as well as in a Collector’s
Edition that would cost WoW fans $69.99. This edition was said to include a
208-page book comprising never before seen images from the videogame, an
in-game pet named Frosty, a DVD featuring developer interviews, the 21-track
official soundtrack CD, two „World of
Warcraft Trading Card Game March of the Legion” starter decks and a mouse pad.
Set in the land of Northrend, an icy continent of the world of Azeroth and also home of the fiend Lich King, WLK focuses on the evil plans of Lich and features WoW’s first Hero class the Death Knight.
Other crowd pleasers that Wrath of the Lich King is said to
come fitted with are the raised level cap from 70 to 80, the raised profession
level cap to 450, new creatures, spells and also weapons, along with new character-customization
options and improved graphics.
