A man and a woman, who were part of the housekeeping staff working at David and Victoria Beckham's home in England, dubbed Beckingham Palace by the British media, have been arrested on suspicion of theft over some of the couple’s possessions, which ended up on the Ebay auction web site, the Telegraph reported.
The former housekeepers, Eric Emmett, 55 and his wife June, 56, from Nazeing, Essex, were retained by police on Friday and released on bail.
"An incident has taken place," a spokesman for the Beckham family confirmed. "The matter is now in the hands of the police."
A third arrest was made on a 25-year-old Essex man, who believed to be the son of the couple. He too has been bailed out police said.
"A 56-year-old woman and a 55-year-old man from Essex have been arrested in connection with this incident and are currently on police bail," a Hertfordshire police spokesman said.
"A 25-year-old man from Essex was arrested yesterday evening. He has been bailed to a police station in Hertfordshire in November," the spokesman added. The incident is yet under investigation and no charges have been filed. In the meantime, a spokeswoman for eBay said the internet auction site had completed its own internal investigation and handed the relevant information to Hertfordshire Police.
Apparently, Victoria’s parents saw items up for auction online that looked familiar to them, so they went to the Sawbridgeworth home currently unoccupied by their daughter and family and found the same items missing. The items included some of Beckham's soccer memorabilia and dresses belonging to the former Spice Girl.
"They include mostly small but expensive trinkets and some pieces which were on decorative display," a source told the Telegraph, "Some of the things were given to them as presents and are unique because they were specially made for them. Together they add up to quite a high value."
Posh was reportedly "very upset" to learn about the theft, especially about a red satin robe, custom designed by Roberto Cavalli. The piece had "Mrs. Beckham" printed on the front and "Posh" on the back.
The couple, who have reportedly worked for the former England football captain and his wife for more than 10 years, called the accusations gibberish.
"What is in the papers is fabricated nonsense - totally fabricated. Ninety-nine percent of it is totally untrue," said Eric Emmett, speaking from his home in Nazeing, Essex, while his wife said she was shocked by the allegations, calling them "a bolt from the blue."
Asked how the eBay site could be traced to his address, Emmett told reporters outside his home that, "It doesn’t involve myself, that is for sure."
David and Victoria, who moved to Los Angeles last year so that David could play for the LA Galaxy team, currently live in a $22 million Beverly Hills mansion.
