The American Music Awards announced that R&B singer Alicia Keys has five nominations at this year’s event. She will compete for awards such as for Favorite Album and Favorite Female Artist in both Pop/Rock and R&B genres, as well as Artist of the Year.
The live event will take place at the Nokia Theatre L.A. on Sunday, November 23rd on ABC. This is the 36th annual edition of the awards ceremony. Jimmy Kimmel will host the current American Music Awards.
Coldplay garnered four nominations this year, Favorite Artist in the Alternative Rock category, Favorite Band Duo or Group and Favorite album, for “Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends,” in the Pop/Rock category and Artist of the Year. Eagles also earned four nominations: Favorite Band Duo or Group and Favorite Album in the Pop/Rock category, Favorite Artist in the Adult Contemporary category and Artist of the Year. In addition to Alicia Keys, Coldplay and Eagles, Lil Wayne and Chris Brown join them in the 2008 Artist of the Year nominees. Other artists receiving multiple nominations are Mary J. Blige, Garth Brooks, Mariah Carey, Daughtry, Flo Rida, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Usher and Kanye West.
For the second year, winners will be determined by online voting at ama.abc.com as well as at amavote.com. Voting will close November 7th and it began October 14th.
Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift, the Pussycat Dolls and New Kids on The Block were also announced as performers along with the Jonas Brothers and Pink. Additional acts and award presenters will be announced during the coming weeks.
