Spider-Man Returns. Again. And Again.

In the fall of 2009, two more sequels of the movie “Spider-Man” are scheduled to begin being filmed. The installments will be shot simultaneously, in an attempt to reduce the overall cost. ”Spider-Man 4” is slated for release in May 2011, nine years after nerdy Peter Parker turned superhero for the first time.

Speaking of the main character, he will be portrayed by (drum rolls) Tobey Maguire, the actor who rose to fame due to his leading role in the movie adaptation of the “Spider-Man” comic book.

As for the apple of Parker’s eye, Mary Jane Watson, there is presently no info on whether she will be played by Kirsten Dunst, although the actress is likely to reprise her role.

But what we do know for sure is that director Sam Raimi will be definitely coming back for the two new rounds of the crime-fighting spree.

Moreover, the screenplay is to be written by James Vanderbilt, who also wrote the screenplay for the movie “Zodiac”.

In other news, Sony has hired screenwriters in order to get the development on the “Spider-Man 3” spinoff movie “Venom” started.

The original “Spider-Man” movie was released in 2002, 17 years after the rights to a motion picture based on the eponymous comic book had been purchased. Throughout the so-far trilogy, the superhero has faced evil-doers such as Green Goblin (played by actor Willem Defoe), Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), New Goblin (James Franco), Venom (Topher Grace) and Sandman (Thomas Haden Church).

Six fierce enemies in only three films. The „Spider-Man” guys mean business when they say that with great power comes great responsibility.
