According to revenue calculations completed by Forbes for the last twelve months, Will Smith was the best paid actor, with earnings of no less than $80 million. Things seem to be following a similar path this year as well, as both Hancock and Seven Pounds are expected to be huge box office hits. He is the first actor whose filmography contains eight straight movies that have brought in more than $100 million.
The Forbes chart continues with Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp, who has managed to cash in about $72 million.
A rather distant third place went to Eddie Murphy, with $55 million. Mike Myers, having earned pretty much the same, came in fourth. The top ten brought together some of the biggest names in the business: Leonardo DiCaprio, Bruce Willis, Ben Stiller, Nicolas Cage, Will Ferrell and Adam Sandler.
Last year, the best paid actress was Cameron Diaz; the roles in Shrek and What Happens in Vegas have added $50 million to her bank account. Next came Keira Knightley, with $32 million, and Jennifer Aniston, with $27 million.
Forbes people also put together a chart of the highest-earning media personalities. It wasn’t such a big shock to see Oprah Winfrey on top of the list. Over the last twelve months, she earned a whopping $275 million; as she has recently signed a new three-year $55 million contract with XM satellite radio, she will most definitely appear in the Forbes lists in the following years.
