50 Cent Allowed More Time with 11-Year-Old Son

Rapper 50 Cent was granted more time with his 11-year-old son after passing a rapid drug test at the judge’s request Thursday, reports MTV.com.

50 Cent, real name Curtis Jackson, and former girlfriend Shaniqua Tompkins, were in Long Island Family Court Thursday, July 17, for a custody hearing.

The estranged couple are parents to 11-year-old son Marquise.

The rapper had requested more time with his boy, a wish the judge fulfilled. Not before making a request of his own however,

He asked that both 50 Cent and Tompkins submit to rapid drug tests at the courthouse, before discussing custody issues with them. Both parents acquiesced.

The rapper’s lawyer, Brett Kimmel, told MTV.com that 50’s test came back negative, while Tompkins’ sample tested positive for opiates. She reportedly explained this happened because she has been taking medicine which contains codeine.

The judge granted 50’s request for more time with Marquise, more specifically unrestricted time from August 3-12. Kimmel told MTV he knew Marquise would be staying with his dad during this period but could not elaborate on any plans the two might have.

Relations have been strained between 50 Cent and Shaniqua Tompkins lately, culminating with a suspicious fire in May which burned down the house where Tompkins lived with Marquise. The house is owned by 50 Cent and has long been a reason for dissent between the estranged lovers.

Tompkins filed a lawsuit against the rapper earlier this year claiming that he promised her a house more than a decade ago, but that since their breakup, he now wants to evict her and their son from the home.
They will be back in court on Aug. 19 to discuss insurance proceeds from the home. The rapper did not live in the house and was not there at the time. The home was burned to the ground.
