Good Things And Bad Things About The Apple App Store
Much has been said during the last few days about the new Apple 3G iPhone, but there hasn’t been said much about the new Apple online store that is dedicated to the new device. People seem to have pretty contradictory opinions about the new store, or more precisely, about the products it offers.

So first of all, let’s say a few things about what this store offers. As you probably already know, it is the place where companies can sell their software that is dedicated for the new iPhone, and the place where people can take a look and purchase some programs that can beef up the device’s performance as the buyer sees fit. An important thing people need to know is that this is the only store where people can buy legal software for the iPhone.

Some people consider that the App Store is a very good idea, and the fact that this is the only place to offer this kind of products is a good thing. Of course, the fact that Apple is behind the whole show certainly makes it a secure place to buy software from. The company said that its products are tested so as to make sure that they are compatible to the device. Another reason to give App Store the thumbs up is the way it seamlessly blends with the iPhone, making any download and installation of purchased software a trifle for even the most non tech-savvy users.

And let’s not forget that the software applications that are made available on the store really offer the device the possibility to be almost anything a user wants. There are applications that allow radio playback on the device, shooting video clips or voice recording. Of course not all of these features have the necessary hardware support, since the iPhone was not designed to implement these things. Software developers however have done a really good job in using the resources that the device has to develop applications that improve the device.

On the other hand there are those people who see the downsides of this project. As far as the actual concept of the store is concerned, having Apple to control the store might raise some concerns about how fair the applications that are promoted on the site are chosen. For example, supposing that a company develops an application that is better than a similar one from Apple, how sure can that company be that its product will make the store? And let’s not forget that Apple also gets 30 percent of the value of any application that is sold through the App Store. This means that companies might make their products available at cheaper prices, if only they had the opportunity to do so.

But let’s go back to the actual applications themselves. Many of them are riddled with bugs, as no time and no possibility to beta-test them was possible. What is more, it seems that Apple has asked that no information about how its device can be programmed should be posted online. This resulted in programmers having no site or online resource to seek solutions to their problems, from other people who have faced them before.

However, it is less likely that these bugs could affect your phone in a really terrible way. The most that they have been reported to do is shut down your iPhone. And let’s not forget that all the bugs that are being discovered are most probably registered, so that future versions of the applications will be much more stable and safer.
