It’s official, Izzie will remain a character in “Grey’s Anatomy.” Katherine Heigl is not going to leave the show. According to People Magazine, ABC entertainment president Stephen McPherson said Wednesday that the actress would definitely remain in the show.
“She’s absolutely staying with the show,” said Stephen McPherson at the Television Critics Association’s annual fall preview.
After the actress withdrew herself from this year’s Emmy race due to unworthy material, rumors started circulating that she would leave “Grey’s Anatomy.” Katherine Heigl told the Los Angeles Times in June that she didn’t receive “the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination and in an effort to maintain the integrity of the academy organization, I withdrew my name from contention,” adding that “I did not want to potentially take away an opportunity from an actress who was given such materials.”
Given her statement, everybody suspected that the show’s producers were mad at the actress and that they were taking into consideration killing her character with a fatal brain tumor.
Stephen McPherson cleared out any doubt and said that she would stay in the show. Moreover, “there’s an unbelievable storyline for her which is really central to everything that’s going to go on this season. We’re really excited about that,” added McPherson, according to People Magazine.
Colleague Eric Dane aka McSteamy said that Heigl was a talented and professional actress and she really enjoyed her work. “Grey's Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes won't be at press tour until Thursday, so people would have to wait until they find out more about Izzie Stevens.
“Grey’s Anatomy” returns September 25 with a two-hour premiere.
