Barenaked Ladies Lead Singer Arrested on Drug Charges

Steven Page, singer and guitarist for Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies, was arrested last week on drug charges in upstate New York and is due in court Thursday.

Steven Page, the 38-year-old singer and guitarist for Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance on Friday in the Syracuse area, reports the Associated Press.

Police apparently noticed a suspicious car at about 2 a.m., with its driver’s side door left open. Authorities said Steven Page and two women were in a nearby apartment, with cocaine and marijuana in their possession. An arrest ensued.

Both Page and the two women face drug charges. Barenaked Ladies’ manager Terry McBride confirmed the charge to the Post-Standard of Syracuse. He declined to comment further.

Steven Page paid $10,000 bail and was released. He is due in court Thursday.

The Buffalo News adds that Steven Page had in fact been visiting a female acquaintance in Fayetteville when he was arrested by Manlius Town Police, quoting authorities there.

Page performed with the band Saturday at a concert in southern Indiana. They recently released a new album, “Snacktime!,” featuring original children’s songs. The band is scheduled to perform next month on Long Island at Playskool’s Play Aid Benefit Concert.

McBride said the band’s shows are still scheduled.

“Snacktime!” released in early May, quickly made it among the Top 10 Canadian albums, reaching #10, and peaked at #61 on the Billboard 200.

A message on the band’s website announces that Barenaked Ladies will return to the studio later this year to start work on the next full-length album that will celebrate 20 years together. Steven Page is a founding member of the band.
