Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman End Romance, Mutual Laughs

Comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman made loving fun of each other during the five years their romance lasted; they may continue the fun making but the love is no longer there, reps for the two celebrities said on Monday.

Jimmy Kimmel, 41, hosts late-night ABC talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” while Sarah Silverman, 37, has her own show on cable TV network Comedy Central, “The Sarah Silverman Program.”

The humorous celebrities became a humorous couple five years ago and created an Internet sensation earlier this year with a couple of videos that attracted millions of viewers.

It was Sarah Silverman that initiated the teasing, performing a duet with actor Matt Damon on Kimmel’s show in which she jokingly announced her boyfriend that she was cheating on him with the “The Bourne Identity” star.

Kimmel responded to this with a video of his own, starring himself and Ben Affleck, coincidentally best friend of Matt Damon. The two pretended to be in a gay relationship. Kimmel’s video also featured Hollywood stars Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Cameron Diaz, Rebecca Romjin and Christina Applegate, all showing their support for Kimmel’s man love for Affleck.

Vanity Fair was first to report the break-up. “Jimmy and Sarah have and will have no further comment,” Kimmel’s rep Lewis Kay and Silverman’s rep Amy Zvi confirmed to People in a joint statement.

After February’s celebratory videos (Kimmel and Silverman had been together for five years), People magazine named them the Funniest Couple Alive and elicited further funniness from them.

Asked whether they are romantic, Sarah Silverman said she is romantic “in a very Jewish way,” since she is “constantly thinking, ‘What if something terrible happens to him!?’ and then clinging to him for dear life.”

Kimmel’s answer was that while he is “not romantic in the traditional way,” he is “an incredible lover” who can “give off a great deal of sexual energy.”

“I have to be careful with it, because it makes people tremble,” the talk show concluded.

Perhaps they will get back together and entertain us with more reciprocal teasing.
