Rev. Timothy Wright, aged 61, founder and pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center in Crown Heights, was transported in critical condition together with his 14-year-old grandson, D.J. Wright, at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa., a hospital spokesman reported.

The well-known gospel singer’s wife, Betty Wright, 58, the co-pastor of the church, died in the accident that took place on Interstate 80 in Greene Township, the authorities announced. However, the guilty driver of the wrong-way car, identified as John Pick, 44, of Lewisburg, Pa., was also killed in the crash.

The State Police informed that the catastrophe occurred at about 10.30 p.m. on Friday, on a highway about 160 miles west of Manhattan.

The pastor and his family were heading back home to Roosevelt, L.I., from a church meeting in Detroit, Leroy Johnson, a trustee at Grace Tabernacle reported on Saturday night.

Timothy Wright has released twelve gospel recordings, among which the album “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus”, that came out only last year. In 1976, he initiated his own choir and has had various gospel triumphs, such as “Troubles Don’t Last Always” and “Who’s On The Lord’s Side?”.

The couple had been married for 37 years and had five sons. Leroy Johnson informed the press that the family wishes that no further information is made public. The church intends to hold a special prayer service at 5 p.m. on Sunday.
