Digital Extremes To Assist 2K In PS3’s BioShock Development

2K Games has announced that it has signed an agreement with Digital Extremes to assist in the development of BioShock for the PS 3.

This means that currently four studios are working on this version: 2K Marin, 2K Boston, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes.

In BioShock, which was released in August last year, players enter the game as a castaway in Rapture, an underwater utopia torn apart by civil war.

Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically modified "splicers" and deadly security systems, players have to come to grips with a dangerous and mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters. With multiple avenues for surmounting challenges on both a moral and tactical level, no encounter ever plays out the same.

Nearly everything in the game can be turned into a weapon; players can biologically modify their bodies with plasmids, hack devices and systems, upgrade weapons and craft new ammo variants, and experiment with different battle techniques.

The game was released initially only for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Digital Extremes pioneered technological and graphical design within the video gaming industry as the co-creators of Epic Games' Unreal franchise. Using the experience it gained from working on the recently released Dark Sector, Digital Extremes will help 2K studios to optimize BioShock's performance on PS3.

The PS3 version is scheduled to be released in October and Take Two announced it will release a sequel of BioShock, BioShock 2, most probably sometimes between August and October 2009.
