Although the autopsy has not been completed, no visible signs of trauma on Grivas’ body were reported and investigations are continuing. It is assumed that he died from a heroin overdose. Grivas had allegedly been struggling with drug problems for some time.
Emmy Award-winning actress Applegate has expressed to be "profoundly saddened'' by Grivas's death in a press-release.
“Lee was an incredible human being who was an extremely important and beautiful part of my life. He is missed beyond words. He touched so many and I feel much sadness for his mother, brother and all of his family and friends,” the statement said.
The Los Angeles Police Department said that a report was filed July 1 but would not disclose any additional details, awaiting the results of the autopsy and toxicology tests.
"All I confirm is that a death report investigation for Lee Grivas has been taken," Officer Julie Sohn said.
However, authorities have said that the deceased had a history of drug abuse and that an officer found a syringe at the scene.
The “Married with Children” and “Samantha Who?” star had been dating Grivas on and off for more than two years. They started seeing each other in January 2006, a year after Jonathan Schaech, Applegate’s husband, filed for divorce. At the time, she was playing in a Broadway renewal of “Sweet Charity”.
Later that year, they reportedly split, but had been seeing each other again during the last few months.
Applegate scored her most memorable role of Kelly Bundy in Fox's comedy series “Married... with Children”. She portrayed her character for ten years (1987-1997) in the successful sitcom. While working on the series, Applegate was seen in "Dance 'Til Dawn” (1988, NBC) and in “Streets” (1990), in which a teenage drug addict is stalked by a psychotic police officer. The Kelly Bundy role got her an Emmy Award in 2003 for outstanding guest actress in a comedy series.
