Mozilla’s Firefox 3 seems to be getting more popular with each passing day, with a current market share of about 19 percent. The updated Firefox 3 browser was released on June 17 and since them the company’s user base increased with 4 percent.
Mozilla’s officials announced that even though most of the Firefox 3 users are people updating their Firefox 2 browsers, there is a cut of about 0.4 percent of the users which switch to their product at the expense of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
Microsoft IE’s market share encountered a small but continuous decline over the past few months, as it now holds 73.01 percent from June’s 73.75 percent. Looking at the bigger picture, since last year’s 79 %, the Internet Explorer browser recorded a rather significant popularity depreciation and even though it still holds the market’s number one spot, the competition is very likely to only get steeper.
Another Web browser which is doing pretty well on the market is Apple’s Safari, which now holds a market share of 6.31 percent from last year’s 4.71 percent. In its case, the explanation comes from the huge popularity encountered by Apple’s Mac computers which sell with the browser already installed.
Firefox 3 offers a far better Internet browsing experience than its predecessors, being a lot faster than Firefox 2, as the company took care of several bugs and memory leaks. Also, the company’s developers added many new features meant to better the streamline usage in addition to the introduction of some new tools for easily identifying favorite Web sites and remembering them.
The battle for new clients and attracting other companies’ subscribers continues and the general market trend seems to lead to a more balanced user distribution.
