The divorce trial between former supermodel Christie Brinkley and architect Peter Cook is set to begin in Central Islip, N.Y. and a messy divorce it promises to be.
The trial is set to open to the public Wednesday on Long Island and scandalous details of the couple’s 10-year marriage are bound to spill forward. Interestingly enough, Brinkley, 54, seems to experience no qualms in having her children learn more of their father’s affair with his teenage assistant.
Brinkley married Hamptons architect Peter Cook in 1996. Ten years later, she was filing for divorce, once the relationship unfortunately came to a sad end, after her husband’s extramarital affair with his assistant, then 18, was revealed.
It is this assistant, the now 21-year-old Diana Bianchi, who will be a star witness once the public divorce trial begins Wednesday, July 2.
Brinkley’s Manhattan attorney, Robert Stephan Cohen, told the Associated Press that “so much has already been in the press about what happened” that the only way to have the truth revealed is “through an open courtroom.”
Brinkley and Cook will not be arguing over financial issues, as the couple had a prenuptial agreement. They will however dispute over the custody of their two kids.
The couple has a 9-year-old daughter, Sailor; Cook has also adopted the former model’s 12-year-old son, Jack, from her marriage to Richard Taubman. She also has a 22-year-old daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, from her marriage to Billy Joel.
Brinkley has been trying to weather the trouble with grace, attending a week ago the American Heart Association’s annual gala in the Hamptons to accept a humanitarian award. She told People magazine that she had plenty to be grateful for: “so many wonderful friends, my family.”
“My friends have been my support. I am so lucky to have them all,” the 54-year-old mother of three said.
