There’s no doubt about it, Nintendo’s Wii Fit has been keeping our bodies fit and our pockets short for a week now, and as we begin to exercise, stores begin to re-supply. Amazon.com was out even before Wii Fit was launched, with pre-orders saturating their stock from early May.
According to Amazon.com, the great demand for Wii Fit has already generated shortages of products across U.S., and they are currently trying to restock from various suppliers in order to provide their customers with the product they want.
The fact that Wii Fit has already been sold out across U.S. perhaps serves as an explanation on why the sales haven’t made it to number one (although they did make it to top 3): the initial supply was short, which caused some retailers to go crazy with prices too.
According to Gamasutra, North America isn’t the only continent struggling to get the Wii Fit, as Europe seems to have the same problem. The world is crazy for Wii Fit, and prices have reached as much as $150 in some retailers.
Wii Fit’s U.S. debut was a sign that the supply was much too short: according to a New York Nintendo World Store employee, it took less than one hour for all the consoles to be sold on launch date.
As people continue to run from the gym from various reasons, such as lack of time, money or energy, but dream about staying in shape, Shigeru Miyamoto managed to come up with an idea that is helpful, fun, and perfectly “fits” everyone's living room.
Players can control the fitness routine of a game character by actually doing the exercises themselves. This is accomplished with the help of a board that measures the player’s shift in balance and then transmits the information to the console via a wireless connection.
Wii Fit comes with a pressure sensitive balance-board that can be used for all sorts of dynamic activities, such as aerobic, yoga, muscle stretches and games, and emphasizes on slow and controlled motions. It also includes as much as 40 different activities.
With the largest marketing launch in the company’s history, Wii Fit was predicted to become an instant hit in the U.S. and across the world.
