The Russian defence chief Yuri Baluyevsky issued a statement expressing his firm belief that the only way to prevent a military incident is to cease all arms supplies in the region.

He also singled out the states responsable for the main military assistance in Georgia, which includes ecquipment, training and significant financial support. On the list appear the United States, Turkey, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic.

Georgia’s announcement about its plans to join NATO angered Russia and it led to the state’s decision of keeping closer ties with Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the two rebel Georgian regions.

Tensions have mounted even higher as the Russian security service announced that its officers detained a man believed to have conducted a series of spying activities for Georgia. The alleged spy’s exposure could confirm the Georgian participation in several terrorist activities in the south of Russia.

Also, a Georgian drone was shot down over Abkhazia and the number of peacemakers in the area has rapidly increased.

NATO managed to ruin some of its Russian connexions by announcing its open minded policy about eventually allowing the state to join the alliance. Russia considers Georgia as part of its solid sphere of influence and sees no good in the country’s plans to join the alliance.
