Syesha Mercado Is Optimistic After Being Voted Out From Idol

For all of us, it was no surprise that Syesha Mercado was voted out from Idol Wednesday. But the last woman to leave American Idol says she had no idea it was going to be a two-David finale. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the beautiful Idol finalist said she had been “in a little bubble for a while.” The rumors that her fate had already been decided before the latest show hadn’t reached her, so she had a rather confident than acquiescent attitude during her last performances. Actually, getting to know her powerful character, one should know she would have had the same attitude even if she had heard the rumors.

Syesha told EW she had actually heard there was going to be a David Cook-Syesha finale. She said she thought “little girls stopped voting for David Archuleta and a cloud of votes” had come in for her. She only started to have the feeling she would go home after the judges criticized her first two songs.

In a conference with reporters, following Wednesday night's elimination, Syesha explained how she transformed during the Idol show, becoming more and more confident and comfortable with herself every week.

She said that the judges’ harsh critique actually made her stronger every week and she tried to improve and also try to enjoy herself more.

Her future hopes after the Idols Live Tour ends include an album, a film, an organic restaurant and work with a homeless foundation.

Asked about the source of her energy during the shows, she mentioned her family and fiancé, and also her optimism, which caused her never to pack her luggage, every time there were big chances for her to be eliminated.

“If you want to win, you're going to win. Whoever's the most passionate is going to win,” Syesha said of the two Davids who remained to battle in the finale.
