Parking Deck Collapses in South Charlotte
A parking deck collapsed in South Charlotte, N.C., on Tuesday morning prompting local authorities to deploy about four dozen fire department personnel at the scene of the incident.

The parking deck which collapsed is on the 6100 block of Fairview Road, near Barclay Downs Drive, an office tower close to South Park Mall.

Fortunately, nobody was injured or at least this was the conclusion of the Urban Search and Rescue Team, which sent crews to search the premises.

The incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The fourth floor collapsed into the third deck. The third deck then collapsed onto the floor below.

However, firefighters are still searching the rubble for possible victims, said Fire Capt. Rob Brisley. He added that a few cars that were parked nearby were slightly damaged.

The section of the parking deck that collapsed was about the size of a basketball court (20 to 30 foot) said Brisley.

This is not the first time something like this happens in Charlotte. A similar accident occurred a few months ago and a woman was killed as her vehicle crashed into a support wall at a parking deck nearby. A small section of the three-tier deck collapsed and the woman fell through the opening.
