Archuleta’s Pushy Dad Kicked Out From “Idol”

After being a nuisance backstage, annoying the show’s producers, the band, and even other contestants, David Archuleta’s dad was eventually banned from "American Idol" rehearsals.

Jeff Archuleta was told by the show’s producers that he was no longer allowed to help his son David prepare for the show, TMZ informed Friday.

The decision was taken after Jeff Archuleta requested that his son include a phrasing from Sean Kingston’s 2007 hit "Beautiful Girls" in his rendition of Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me” last week.

The producers had warned Jeff through an e-mail that the change was not allowed, so when they heard David singing the song with Kingston’s lyrics during the show, they were terribly angry. The lyrics change created problems with the song’s publisher and cost “American Idol” additional song-clearance fees.

David’s dad was always very much involved in everything his son did, so everybody is now wondering what effect the loss of his father’s backstage support will have on David, now that the show reached its last stages.

In the meantime, friends of the Archuleta family are showing their support for Jeff Archuleta.

According to the Boston Herald, Richard Parkinson, who had been working with David on musical arrangement in the past years, called Jeff a "great guy."

"He’s involved. He’s intense. . . . Sometimes people don’t like that. He’s raised a great kid. We absolutely love him. It’s unfair and uncalled for," Parkinson tried to defend the senior Archuleta, as quoted by the Herald.

In an interview with US Weekly last month, Jeff Archuleta insisted he was not the pushy dad that everybody thought he was, but only a "musical consultant" for David. He said he only encouraged his son in a positive way, never threatening of forcing him to do what he didn’t want to.

What will happen to David in the next show remains to be seen. The teenager girls will probably be impressed by the sad story and vote like crazy, to show how much they support their little idol…But the whole thing might also have a negative impact on David’s evolution.

However, Jeff Archuleta is still allowed to be part of the audience during the live show, so David will not be completely deprived of his father’s presence.
