”Superbad” is Super Favorite at MTV Movie Awards

“Superbad,” written by Seth Rogen and starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, is a comedy about two sex-obsessed nerds and has managed to get 5 nominations at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. On second place, with 4 nominations, is “Juno,” the movie about the pregnant 16 year-old who wants to give away her baby.

The nominations were announced on Tuesday, by the popular television network MTV. It is said that Sony Picture’s “Superbad” got nominated for best movie and best actor for stars Hill and Cera.

The movie also gathered three nominations for breakthrough performances.

“As someone who had his nose rubbed up against a locker or two, it’s great to see my cinematic nerd brothers get their just rewards,” Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music and Logo and Films Group, said in a statement, according to Reuters.

“It’s our audience that has made these movies huge box office hits and they’ve clearly spoken by nominating films with strong characters they can all relate to,” added Toffler.

“Superbad,” a movie about a day in the lives of two high-school geeks who long to have sex, has proved to be a surprise smash hit at box offices as it earned nearly $170 million at worldwide box offices.

One more proof that sex, or anything related to it, sells.

The other nominations for best movie are “Transformers,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End,” “I Am Legend,” and “National Treasure: Book of Secrets.”

Mike Meyers will be the host of the 17th annual awards show which will be transmitted live on June 1st.
