Jolie and Depp Vie for Best Villain at MTV Movie Awards

Who could have foreseen that a golden slippery Angelina Jolie and a dead-pale murderous Johnny Depp would compete for Best Villain at the MTV Movie Awards one year?

Well, the time has come. The nominees for the 17th Annual MTV Movie Awards have been announced and two of Hollywood’s greatest actors are vying in the oxymoronically titled Best Villain category.

Jolie’s golden portrayal of Grendel’s mother in “Beowulf” has been nominated alongside Depp’s take on demonic barber Sweeney Todd in the musical “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”

Other baddies competing: Topher Grace, for his role as Venom in “Spider-Man 3”; Javier Bardem for his Academy Award-winning portrayal of an assassin “No Country for Old Men”; and Denzel Washington for his take on drug lord Frank Lucas in “American Gangster.”

Having started off with the Best Villain category, we now fittingly proceed to list the nominees in the Best Kiss category. They are: Ellen Page and Michael Cera for their gentle smooching in “Juno”; Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey for their fairy-tale lip locking in “Enchanted”; LaBeouf and Sarah Roemer in “Disturbia”; Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman in “Step Up 2: The Streets”; and the magical kiss between Daniel Radcliffe and Katie Leung in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”

Teen comedy “Superbad” leads with most nominations, for Best Movie; Best Comedic Performance (Jonah Hill); and three bids in the Best Newcomer category, for its starring actors, Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Michael Cera.

“Juno” came up next with four nominations, for Best Movie, Best Female Performance for star Ellen Page, Best Male Performance for Cera and the previously mentioned Best Kiss.

“Juno” and “Superbad” are competing in the Best Movie category with “National Treasure: Book of Secrets,” “I Am Legend,” “Transformers” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.”

The 17th Annual MTV Movie Awards will be broadcast live Sunday, June 1, from the Gibson Amphitheater in Universal City, California.
