Paramount’s “Iron Man” opened strong on Friday and, according to the BoxOffice Mojo, the movie earned $32,500,000 in ticket sales after it was premiered in 4,105 theaters.

However, the movie failed to match the record of Spider-Man 3, which opened last year on May 4 and earned $59,841,919 on its first day.

Still with these sales during its first day, “Iron Man” is on the verge of setting a new record for this year. “Horton Hears a Who!” earned $45,012,998 during its opening weekend, while “Cloverfield” grossed $40,058,229 in its first three days.

“IronMan” casts Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges, all critically acclaimed actors that bring fine nuances to their characters.

Downey portrays the dry, witty and dashing Tony Stark, a billionaire weapons manufacturer who owns Stark Enterprises and lives a life enviable to many. But his perspective of life changes substantially though, after he is kidnapped by terrorists in Afghanistan. Helped by his genius, Stark will soon become Iron Man.

The movie is expected to raise as much as $75 million in its first weekend, but after its debut the estimation will probably be blown away.

“Made of Honor”, another movie that opened this weekend, ranked second in Friday’s Top 10 with $5,400,000 in ticket sales.

Directed by Paul Weiland, and co-written by debutant Adam Sztykiel and Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont, “Made of Honor” is a romantic comedy about Tom (Patrick Dempsey) and Hannah (Michelle Monaghan), two career people linked by a platonic friendship.

Last weekend’s champion, “Baby Mama” ranked third with $3,480,000, while another comedy, “Harold And Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay” gained the fourth spot with $2,100,000.

Directed by debutant Nicholas Stoller, produced by Universal and based on the script written by Jason Segel, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” talks about humiliation and depicts love from the vantage point of the insecure male. The movie earned $1,940,000 this Friday and ranked fifth.

The kung fu movie that reunites Jackie Chan and Jet Li, “The Forbidden Kingdom”, earned the sixth place and $1,150,000.

This Friday’s Top 10 was rounded by “Prom Night” with $870,000, “21” with $660,000, “Nim's Island” with $655,000 and Pacino’s “88 Minutes” with $460,000.
