No need to keep speculating and investigating Mariah Carey's nuptials with actor Nick Cannon as People magazine is reporting that the singer obtained a marriage license on the Caribbean island of Eleuthera.
The turmoil surrounding Carey's two-month romance with the rapper which ended in a quick, secret wedding is finally clearing up and according to a source quoted by People.com, a couple must be in the country for at least 48 hours, be over the age of 16 and have obtained a valid marriage license within 90 days, which Carey did get within the specified time.
"The minister would make sure [the license] goes into the registry. It's still a valid marriage even if it's not filed. Anywhere in the world," the source added.
Another Bahamian informer told Access Hollywood the couple tied the knot on Wednesday at Windermere Island, a seven-mile long island in the Bahamas, just off the mainland of Eluethera, where Carey owns an estate.
The New York Post quoted a source as saying the nuptials happened very fast, and there wasn't even time for a prenuptial agreement, but the two "have been smitten with each other for days, weeks. And she's always had a crush on him."
So far, representatives for Carey, 39, and Cannon, 27, are yet to comment on the marriage reports, which started after the music superstar was spotted at the Tribeca Film Festival with a massive jewel-encrusted diamond ring on her finger.
However, despite the fact that everyone is keeping mum regarding their marriage, a member of the Cannon family might have spilled the beans suggesting that reports of a wedding were true.
"He called us and told us all about it. We are happy for him. If that is what he wants then we are happy for him," Linda Cannon was quoted by E!Online as saying.
A rep for Jacob & Co. also confirmed recently that Cannon dished out $2.5 million for Carey's 17-carat ring.
While this marks Carey's second walk down the isle, she was previously marriage to music mogul Tommy Mottolato, it wasn't the first whirlwind courtship for Cannon, who proposed to Victoria’s Secret model Selita Ebanks last year after just four months of dating. The pair called off their engagement the same year.
A source close to Ebanks – who received a 12-carat diamond ring from Jacob & Co jewelers, similar to the 17-carat Jacob bauble Carey is sporting – says the model "really is not affected by it. She is past that point in her life." Ebanks’s rep says Ebanks "has no comment other than she wishes them well."
